Celebrating Volunteer Week
Please read below some comment from our Befriendees about their volunteer Befriender who visit them once a week in their homes, helping end the loneliness and isolation many aged 70+ face each and every day.
I never appreciated how important talking to someone was – how much I need to talk and have someone to talk to.
I used to be the one helping other people. It’s hard accepting you need help… but friendship is help, more help than we give credit for.
After my husband died, I’d never felt so alone. We moved here together and we did everything together… we were the last of our friendship group, and then I was all alone. Having someone visit just for me, really has been a life saver. I can’t tell you how much it means.
Friends For So Long I Dont Know What I Would Do Without The Weekly Visits
She Is Lovely And I Like Her Lot. We Get On Well. We Talk And Laugh A Lot
Absolute Joy I Look Forward To His Visit. We Have So Much In Common
Great Friendship I Cannot Praise Evergreen Enough
Would Be Lost Without My Evergreen Friend. Thank You So Much I Don’t Feel So Lonely
Here are the comments from our Befrienders about their volunteering role with Evergreen Sleaford
“I chose to become a befriender as when I worked as a district nurse many elderly people I saw were lonely and would have appreciated this service. This is a two-way process as I enjoy my time with my Befriendee.”
“I joined to make a difference to someone’s life, which has been achieved. By doing so I have a feeling of satisfaction - the ‘feel good factor’.”
“As a very busy person I was concerned I may be taking on too much but it has had the opposite effect and helped to slow me down!””
I retired and wanted to do something useful with my time. Going to see my Befriendee is positive for both of us as she lives outside the town in a very rural area and rarely sees anyone in the day.”
“In my job as a carer I could only support people. Evergreen enables friendships.”
“Without doubt befriending has a positive benefit to both parties. My befriendee feels less isolated, like she matters and has a warm and caring relationship in her life.“
“I enjoy helping to raise his spirits.”
“I love to see her face light up with a smile when I arrive.”
