Our Befrienders

Who are Volunteer Befrienders?

Our Befrienders are volunteers who have a ‘heart for people’, who are willing to, and enjoy, spending time with older people. Each volunteer must provide two character references, will be DBS checked and will receive regular training and support in their role as a Volunteer Befriender.

We’re always looking for new, suitable volunteers, as there is a high demand for our service. If you’re interested in volunteering, please see our ‘Volunteering’ page.

What Support do they Offer?

The Befriending Scheme is about ‘friendship’. Simple and genuine friendships with committed and caring people who are willing to give an hour or so a week to their befriendee. The time might be spent chatting over a cuppa, a shared activity in the home, a little trip out or a walk. Each befriending relationship will be unique to those in it. Please note however, the Scheme is not intended to be a domestic, sitting or taxi service.
